The Center for Learning and Cognitive Enhancement provides students with an additional layer of academic support to aid in their success at Shortridge and beyond. The Center offers both comprehensive learning support services and cognitive enhancement programs. Led by our Learning Specialist and staffed by trained academic support teachers, the CLCE offers the following services:
Individualized Learning Plans (ILP) are developed shortly after students enroll. This extensive document combines relevant academic background information with strategies and modifications to foster future academic success. Creation of the ILP is a collaborative process and is reviewed and edited as needed over the course of each students stay at Shortridge.
Executive Functioning Skills Training uses explicit teaching to further develop organizational, time management, planning, and strategizing abilities as well as skills to help manage impulsivity. The Learning Specialist and CLCE teachers have been trained in a variety of executive functioning techniques.
Supervised Scheduled Study Time is time during the academic day and in the evenings with help available from an instructional support teacher for students who need a quiet place to complete assignments. The Center is designed to assist both group and individual work, homework assignments, and long-term subject projects.
SAT Prep is offered on demand. Students learn specific strategies and study skills to boost their SAT outcomes.
One on One Tutoring is available for students who need extra help in particular subject area.
