Each student at Shortridge Academy is assigned a Master’s level Counselor supervised by our Clinical Director who
meets with each student on his/her caseload once a week. This primary counseling model includes the Counselor being accessible for the student outside of their scheduled weekly meeting. This may include interaction during meal times, activities, and within the therapeutic milieu. Our Counselors also organize and facilitate our weekly groups and support the family counseling component and Positive Development Plan (PDP) development and revision. The Counselor will collaborate with the student and family to develop and revise the personalized PDP based on data collected at the time of enrollment and throughout the Shortridge program. This personalized plan provides the goals and direction for a student’s time at Shortridge. It is reviewed and updated at the time of each Phase transition and progress is measured before transitioning in between the Phases.
Each Counselor works closely with their students’ Academic Advisor and the residential staff and together they meet on a weekly basis to discuss the therapeutic and academic progress of their assigned students. The Shortridge Academy Counselor also serves as the point of contact for parents and referral sources, such as Educational Consultants providing regular updates and communication on each student’s progress.
