Individual Therapy

Each student at Shortridge Academy is assigned a master’s level therapist supervised by our clinical director. Therapists meet with each of their assigned students weekly and are also accessible to the students outside of their scheduled weekly meeting. This may include interaction during meal times and activities and within the therapeutic milieu. Our therapists facilitate two weekly groups, one with their own caseload and one mixed group.

The therapist collaborates with the student and his or her family to develop and revise the personalized Positive Development Treatment Plan based on data collected at the time of enrollment and throughout the Shortridge Academy program. This plan provides the goals and direction for a student’s time at the school. It is reviewed and updated quarterly. 

Therapists work closely on a team with their students’ academic advisor and residential advisor. This team meets on a weekly basis to discuss the therapeutic and academic progress of their assigned students. This integrated model allows all departments at Shortridge to work well together to support each student and family.  

Most students arrive at Shortridge Academy having already attempted different types of therapy. For this reason, our therapists are skilled in multiple modalities, including CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Interpersonal Therapy, IFS (Internal Family Systems), Expressive Therapies, Brainspotting, EMDR, and more. We hold weekly clinical team meetings to discuss students progress and what we feel can work best for them. Our therapists all specialize in adolescent behavioral health, and love working with this population.
